Marion High School

Problem: Design a new, larger High School for Marion, Illinois utilizing Precast Concrete construction adjacent to the newly constructed sports complex.
Solution:  Responding to a site with a grade change of over 50 feet, I positioned the building on the prominent ridge to avoid drainage issues and capitalize on the views.  The design makes
use of circulation as both a connector and a divider between the different functions of the school as well as the different majors of focus within.  Utilizing large open halls with ample gatering spaces as well as locating the lockers along these spaces, I was able to transform a path into a destination.  The program is organized according to the schools within a school philosophy, with three main classroom towers; Math + Science, Fine Arts, and Language + Humanities.

Primary Programs: AutoCAD, Sketchup, Photoshop. 3D Studio Max
